Schedule of Tide times for Tidal Bore viewing at Wide Open Wilderness
Witness the awesome power of the Shubenacadie River tidal bores. The bores can reach heights of 10' feet or more depending on the current phase of the moon. The closer the moon is to Earth the bigger the tides. The incoming tide reverses the natural flow of the river, increasing the level of the water 30' to 40' feet and creating tidal rapids ranging from 2 to 16 feet in height. Use our color guide below to determine the intensity of the tide on any given day. Red background indicates higher tides and bigger bores. Orange is a medium level tide and a yellow background indicates a lower tide. Tide times can vary as much as a half hour or more and times given are a guideline only.
